Fashion — Fabrication — Sustainable Materials

A woven bodice using canvas and birch bark harvested from Boston Lot lake, connected to a layered skirt with laser cut hemlines of New Hampshire tree lines.

"Birches" embodies entangled ecologies literally: the garment is made from the ecosystem it represents, using birch bark harvested from the New Hampshire landscape, and sustainably sourced fabric from Hanover. Rather than designing against natural materials, the construction process requires working with the bark's inherent rigidity and responsiveness to water, making the ecology an active collaborator in the design.

The laser-cut treeline hemline translates that same landscape into a digital silhouette, creating a loop where the environment shapes both the physical material and the output: body, technology, and forest are woven into one garment.

Used coral textures to develop a pattern via negative space in Adobe Illustrator. Modeled pattern pieces to fit my body with 3D scanning software, then cut and constructed using mesh fabric, laser-cut wood, and twine.
